Addie Mae Jones, graced the world with her loving presence on August 9, 1940 she was born in Memphis ,Tennessee to proud and loving parents Lounceford Henderson, and Mercedes Brown Sauls.
Addie received her formal education from Memphis school system. After graduating from Manassas high school she attended Tennessee A and I State University in Nashville, Tennessee and graduated, receiving a bachelor science degree in elementary education in August 1964, and a master of science in guidance and counseling in August 1968.
After graduation, she met, fell in love, and later, married Elton Collins, and they were happily married for many happy years. She was a devoted active member of St. Vincent De Paul Church in Nashville, Tennessee for many years.
Addie embarked on her professional career in 1969 with the State of Tennessee Department of Education in the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor.
Addie Jones passed from this life to the next on August 10, 2023. She is survived by her loving son Elton Jones, her niece Valerie Askew, and a host of adoring relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband Elton Collins, her father, Lounceford Henderson, her mother, Mercedes Brown Sauls, her brother, Ricky Brown and her sister, Dr. Vera Lee Askew.
My Beautiful Mother
Mom, you are a phenomenal woman. You are a great inspiration to me and many others you never met a stranger. Your parties were legendary. Your parties would last days at a time. people would travel near and far to attend your parties. Your dedication towards your family and friends will never be forgotten. May your soul rest in peace. your son, Elton Jones.
To My Loving Sister
The butterfly emerges from its silken shell reborn. It arises no longer bound to earth. Free at last the butterfly collides to heights unknown before so has my sister. She has a beautiful released and is earthbound no more. She has left our site and joyful rise to our garden of matchless beauty, a place of light and peace.
