A  Beautiful Life Journey

Alfreda Elaine Gant‘ journey began on January 29, 1957 when she was born to her loving parents, Ora Lee Gant and John Edward Campbell, who preceded her in death. Alfreda peacefully transitioned on March 2, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Alfreda was a devoted niece, aunt, sister-in-law, cousin, friend, and long-time member of the Schrader Lane Church of Christ.

Alfreda received her education in the Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools. While attending North High School, she served as news reporter and artist for the North Star Newspaper, member of the Polaris staff, and earned the senior superlative designation of “the Quietest” female student. Although she was quiet, she also earned the reputation of being quite the intellectual, especially with numbers. After earning a B.S. degree in Business Management from David Lipscomb College, she spent 35 years serving as a Customer Service Representative for the Internal Revenue Service. Crunching numbers was her passion. As was characteristic of Alfreda, she used her passion to bless others. She answered tax questions and checked or completed income taxes for family, friends, and members of the Schrader family.

Alfreda was also passionate about learning God’s Word and dedicated her life to following Jesus Christ.  She was baptized at Schrader at the age of 18 and remained faithful until her death 49 years after obeying the Gospel. During her 49 years at Schrader, she served faithfully as a Bible Class teacher, Sunday School Secretary, and member of the Visitation Team for sick and shut-in members. She also taught the Bible to troubled teen girls which resulted in at least one precious soul obeying the Gospel.

Aside from her parents, Alfreda was preceded in death by her brothers, Melvin Gant, Sr., and Bernard Gant; her sister, Teresa Hailey; aunts, Shirley Gaines, Mary A. Gant, and uncles John Henry, Sam Levy, and John Herbert Gant.

Alfreda leaves to cherish her memory one surviving uncle, Robert L. (Annie Mae) Gant; devoted nephew, Melvin Gant, Jr.; devoted brother-in-law, Hobert Hailey; Valerie, Darlene, Jaun, and John Campbell, all of Ohio; a host of loving cousins; the Schrader family, and a loving, dedicated childhood friend, Anita Covington. Please keep the Grant family in your thoughts and prayers.
