Alton Virgil Green

Alton Virgil Green was born August 21, 1951 in Nashville, Tennessee. He was the second of six children born to Charles W. Green and Charlene (Crismon) Green. He departed this life on Tuesday, August 17, 2021.

He was preceded in death by parents and brothers, Wadie Laral Green and Howard J. Green. Alton married the love his life, Valerie Strange Green on August 17, 1991. She preceded him in death in June 2009.

Brother Alton was educated in the Nashville school system. After high school, he joined the United States Navy serving 3 ½ years stationed in Newport, Rhode Island. Returning home he earned a B.A. degree in English from Tennessee State University. Alton retired from The Ford Motor Glass Plant.

Brother Alton was an active and faithful member of the church. He served as bible Teacher, song leader, visitor to the sick, volunteer for Christian Community Service, Inc., personal evangelism and willing to help in any capacity as the need arose and was an encouragement to others.

Brother Alton enjoyed daily bible reading, gardening and perfectly manicured lawn. He planted and maintained a vegetable garden for the residents at the Schrader Senior Retirement Community.

He leaves to cherish his memory sisters, Cardelia (Lonnie) Bender, Patricia Green and Thressia (Anthony) McClure; niece Jennifer Green, nephews, Bryan (Lashawn) Green and Wesley Bender; great nephews, Elijah and Ezra Pittman; loving aunt, Dorothy Crismon; kind and supportive Sister-in-law, Loretta Green and numerous cousins, friends, neighbors and church family.
