Dr. George Russell Seay, Jr., was born on March 23, 1958 to George and Ida Seay in Memphis. He passed on June 20, 2020 in Nashville surrounded by his family. Russell was educated in Memphis City Schools where he graduated in 1976 from Northside High School. He accepted the call on his life to the ministry and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Theology from Oakwood University in Huntsville, Alabama. He furthered his education when he earned a Masters in Theology from Andrews Theological Seminary in Berrien Springs, Michigan. Dr. Seay completed his academic studies with a PhD in Theology from Vanderbilt University School of Divinity in Nashville, TN. As an ordained minister, Dr. Seay pastored Seventh-day Adventist congregations in the states of Alabama and Tennessee. He served in administrative capacities as Ministerial Secretary and Family Life Director for the South Central Conference of Seventh-day Adventist. Until his health failed, Dr. Seay capably held the position of Associate Professor of Religion at his alma mater Oakwood University. Dr. Seay is survived by his parents, George and Ida Seay Sr., his wife, Tara Wilson Seay; three children, George Russell Seay lll, April Toure (Keenan), and Hammond Seay. Public viewing will be held on Sunday, June 28, 2020 from 3:00 - 5:00 pm at the Lewis and Wright Funeral Home, 2500 Clarksville Hwy, Nashville, TN 37208.
