Dr. Starlene Anita Johnson Taylor

November 2, 1944 — August 27, 2021

Starlene Anita Johnson Taylor, born November 2, 1944, was lovingly called to eternal rest by our Sovereign Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on August 27, 2021. She was the eldest daughter of the late William H. Johnson, Sr., and Annie E. Hyde Johnson.
Born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee, she received her education in the Davidson County Public School System where she graduated from Pearl High School. Thereafter, she acquired her undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate degrees from Tennessee State University. During her life, she was employed for many years as a high school teacher of Family and Consumer Science, later serving in various capacities at Tennessee State University and Delaware State University, and finally retiring from Lebanon High School in Wilson County, Tennessee. Though she had many talents, she was known for beautiful quilts that she loved making for her family and friends.
Starlene professed a hope in Christ Jesus as her Lord and Savior as a young adult and attended various churches until her health began to fail. On Sundays, her faith was evident as she eagerly prepared to hear the word of God with her Bible, notebook, and pen ready. She was also actively involved in Christian ministries in the church as well as in the community.
She leaves to cherish her memory beloved children: Trina Bradford Byrd, Billy J. Taylor, Jr. (Sokha), Traci Janel Taylor; precious grandchildren: Autumn Frances Byrd, Jordan Chhay Taylor, Annie Savien Taylor; brother, William H. (Wanda) Johnson, Jr.; sisters, Marion L. Wilkins, Leslie Y. (Landson) Drummond, Teresa V. (Jiendesha) Hatten, Charmaine Y. (Ralph) Hill, Linda D. Johnson; devoted nieces, Lucretia Woods and Lashonda Moore; devoted friends, Lucy High and Shirley(Thomas) Caruthers; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her younger brother, Eric M. “Bubba” Johnson.
