Obituary for Eloise M. Witherspoon

Eloise Mamie Witherspoon was born December 11, 1936, in Nashville, Tennessee to the late Herschel and Katherine Hill.

Eloise was welcomed into the arms of her Lord and Savior on October 10, 2023. She was preceded in death by her mother and father Herschel and Katherine Hill, her son Ricky Cannon, her sister Martha Reynolds, and her brothers Hubert (Mickey) and Lloyd Cannon.

Eloise Witherspoon was educated in Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church for over 60 years. She served on the hospitality committee at the church preparing meals for Meals on Wheels, the Summer Feeding Program, and the bereavement ministry. Eloise was employed by Fisk University for over 50 years where she was loved by staff and students alike.

Eloise was a lover of God, family, and people, and was blessed with the gift of hospitality. She could often be found expressing her love through cooking and baking. Her home was a haven for all who were blessed to cross her threshold and be the recipient of her loving kindness.

In her retirement years, her days were occupied with Sudoku, puzzles, and her favorite soap operas and television shows.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her sisters Pat Hill (Oklahoma City) and Peggy Pride; her children Billy Cannon, Evelyn Ferguson, Robbie Foster, and Dianne Johnson; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.

Please keep the Witherspoon family in your thoughts and prayers. Complete arrangements will be announced soon.
