Erlene was born in Greensboro, AL to Courniece Lucille and Lenord Shelton on November 21, 1931. Like in the movie The Help, she was working as a Maid in Birmingham, AL until the early 1960’s when she went to pursue an LPN nursing degree at Riverside Hospital in Nashville. Once she completed her training, her husband Willie and two sons Ricky and Tony joined her in Nashville. In October 1970, mom was blessed with a beautiful baby girl named Lori. In the 1980’s, she went back to school to receive an RN nursing degree at Tennessee State College. For a brief time, she and her son Tony were in college at the same time but at different schools. As a nurse, she worked at most of the major hospitals and at the VA hospital in Nashville, TN. She enjoyed sewing, singing, summer camp, gardening, traveling, nursing stray animals back to health, observing wildlife in her back yard (especially humming birds), and of course, as most of you know, cooking. Her email address began with cooknsmlove. Dispensing love came as natural as breathing for her. And as most of you also know, her talents, skills, and love transcended her cooking skills. She helped anyone and anyway she could with the church family and the community. She won many church and community service awards. Finally, she was a steadfast Christian, a faithful wife, and a loving mother and provider for her children. For those of you who got to taste some of those wonderful meals she made, just imagine, eating like that every day!!!!

Erlene is survived by her sisters, Kay Francis Lewis, Gwendolyn Davis, and Yvonne McGee, her brother Lorenzo Shelton, her children Ricardo Cammack, Anthony Cammack, Lori Cammack-Crues, a host of Cammack and Crummie in-laws, a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, 5 grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Willie Cammack, Jr., her parents Courniece Lucilleand Lenord Shelton, her grandparents Minnie and Fred Pickens, her sister Juanita Crummie, and her brother Otis Shelton.

Memorial donations may be made to Riverside SDA Chapel at 800 Youngs Lane, Nashville, Tn 37207. The Cammack family expresses their deepest gratitude to the Riverside family for all the love and support you’ve shown over the years. Please don’t mourn mom’s death. Just celebrate her life. Keep the faith and may God continue to bless you all.
