James H. Sherrell, born August 12, 1926, affectionately known as “Jake”, began his life in Pulaski, Tennessee. Born to parents Emanual and Elementary Sherrell. Jake was a graduate of Pearl High School class of 1948. He then continued his academic journey at Lane College before ultimately obtaining a mathematics degree from Tennessee State University in 1977. Jake embarked on his career as a Barber in 1938, eventually opening his own establishment, The BEL-AIRE Unisex Salon, in 1957. Locals fondly referred to him and his associates as “The Barbershop Boys”. Jake initiated this group with the noble goal of supporting and uplifting the community and those in need. His genuine kindness and warm personality earned him widespread admiration in the city where he became a beloved figure.
Jake leaves a lasting leagacy to many devoted family, relatives and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
