Johnny Young

January 6, 1937 — February 28, 2018

Mr. Johnny Hayes Young, Sr was born January 6, 1937 in Nashville, TN to the late Mr. Claude Young and Mecca Nora (Beard) Young, he was the last child of 11 children who proceeded him in death- 8 brothers Alfred, Thomas, Morris, Robert and Sammy Brooks, Howard C and Jim Claude (JC) Young; 2 sisters Alice Lauverta Watkins and Mae Sue Love. Johnny had 15 children, the 5 who greeted him on Wednesday February 28 – Johnny H. Young, Jr, Dewayne Young, Claudia Ann Young, Rickey Rydell Young and Cynthia Diane Young.

Johnny was educated in the Davidson County public school system. He professed his belief in Christ at an early age and was baptized at Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church. He worked for E.I. Dupont but took an early retirement to start his own businesses. He never worked a day afterwards, because he did what he loved until the day he died. Early in life he built and raced cars, his most memorable one was a 57 Chevy he called “The Tennessee Stud”. He owned and operated several bars before he settled into selling cars full time. To stay fit, the last few years he began his own lawn service.

Johnny Young was full of life that seemed never ending, the Lord took him quickly because if He didn’t Johnny would have negotiated for extra time. He fiercely loved his children, especially his girls. If he met you he remembered you and you remembered him! If you called him he answered the call or called you right back, because he knew how to make you feel important. The kinds of relationships he has built in his 81 years were sincere, long and lasting.

He leaves to cherish his memory wife Lula Teague-Young, children; Lauverta Sue (Frederick) Robinson, Danny A. Young, Nora Faye Young, Johnny Banasa Young, Derrell (Dianne) Whitfield, Stacia Roxanne (Marvin, Jr.) Young-Ganaway, Tira Deshon Wright, Johna Mecca Young, Angela Teague and Jasmine Y’Anna Young, devoted grandson Danny A. Young Jr., mother-in-law Clara Teague, brother-in-law Thomas Teague, and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
