Kathleen Deloris Bush

d. July 20, 2025

On Sunday, July 20, 2025, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and cousin passed away peacefully in her sleep, called to her eternal home.

Kathleen Deloris Bush (Boyd) was born on September 12, 1946, at Davidson County General Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee. She was the second child of Reynolds Boyd Sr. and Irene (Buchanan) Boyd, both of whom preceded her in death, along with her brother, Reynolds James Boyd Jr.

Kathleen received her education through the Nashville Public School System, attending Cater Lawrence Elementary and graduating from Cameron High School in 1964. Kathleen received a Nursing Certificate from St. Thomas Hospital and a Certificate in Administration from The National Occupation Training Program.

Her professional career included roles at St. Thomas Hospital, Clover Bottom Developmental Center, and The Dialysis Clinic Inc. (DCI) in Nashville, TN. In the late 1990s, Kathleen fulfilled her dream of establishing Over the Rainbow Child Care Center, where she dedicated herself to teaching and caring for children from 1999 to 2006. She consistently went above and beyond, often providing additional supplies, meals, and uniforms for students in need.

Kathleen was baptized at Kayne Avenue Baptist Church by the late Rev. A.J. King in 1956 and later moved her membership in 1979 to Temple Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Bishop Michael Lee Graves. She served as a member of the Temple Praise Choir for several years and remained a devoted member until her health declined.

Kathleen met and married Harold Elvin Bush on May 18, 1970.

Kathleen deeply cherished her family and valued her time spent with them. She is survived by her sons Joseph Melvin (Stephine) Bush and Harold Sean Bush; her daughter Ashley Sherrie Bush; and her grandson Ke’mari Whittemore. She also leaves behind her sisters Patrica (Cecil) Stewart, Juanita Howard, Sherry (Carroll) Little of Maryland, and Renalda Boyd; and brothers Ernest Eugene Smith, Charles E. Boyd of Florida, Gregar Boyd, and Rory Boyd.

Affectionally called, Aunt Katie, her memory will be cherished by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, including her aunts Emma Jean Lintz, Rose Peacock, Josephine Frazier, and Uncle Willie Lee Buchanan, all of Shelbyville, Tennessee.
