Life and Legacy

Leroy Derrickson, the youngest of ten children born to Curry and Hattie Derrickson, passed away March 5, 2026. A lifelong learner, Leroy attended Pearl High School in Nashville and continued his studies at Tennessee State University. He built a long and respected career as a dietitian, retiring from St. Thomas hospital West after many years of dedicated service.

A faithful church member, Leroy began at Prayer Temple Church of God and Christ and later years worshipped at Greater Harvest Church of God in Christ, where he served in several roles and became beloved as the church’s go-to cook. He was an active member of the Seasoned Saints group, which he fondly recalled as going on “field trips” — including a trip to Florida and a cruise.

Leroy loved a good western, was an avid reader, and enjoyed game shows that tested his knowledge. He treasured time with friends and family and often warmed the room with a hearty, home-cooked meal prepared all from scratch.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Curry and Hattie Derrickson, and by nine siblings.

Leroy’s memory will be cherished by his family, nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and a wide circle of other relatives and dear friends.

The family welcomes expressions of sympathy and stories that celebrate Leroy’s life and the many meals, trips, and moments he shared.
