Lynn Craighead Allen

July 27, 1961 — April 19, 2024

Lynn Ardelle Craighead Allen was born on July 27, 1961 to the late Robert L Sr. and Mary Smithson Craighead.  She was the sixth of six children: Sandra Marie Craighead, Ann Carol Craighead, Robert Lincoln Craighead Jr., Carlton Bertram Craighead, and Don Elliot Craighead, with Carlton and Ann preceding her in death.

Lynn graduated from Father Ryan High School where she met and later fell in love with Gregory Allen. She matriculated to Tennessee State University and they were married for 43 years. They had two wonderful children, and currently have 5 grandchildren.  While spending her young adult life in Tennessee, she moved to Texas after graduation and went on to East Texas State University where she obtained her Master’s degree.  She enjoyed being with family and friends, and especially enjoyed being with her grandchildren.  Being a grandmother was a precious joy to her, and she would light up whenever she was around them.

She was an educator and an administrator in the Texas public school system where she touched the lives of many young minds, both as a teacher and as a principal. Being an educator was natural for her and at one point she returned home to run the Smithson Craighead Academy as director from 2000 to 2002.

She was a cheerful, humorous, and wise person who loved to entertain. She positively touched all who knew her. She passed on April 18, 2024, and her delightful spirit will live on through all who loved her.

She is survived by her spouse, children, and grandchildren:

Spouse: Gregory Seay Allen Sr. Children: Gregory Seay Allen II, (spouse) LaTonya M. Allen. Grandchildren: Gregory S. Allen III, Camryn M. Allen, Zoey N. Allen, Bryson A. Allen. Kamille Nichol Campbell, (spouse) Bryan B. Campbell. Grandchildren: Arianna L. Campbell.

Please keep the Allen and Craighead families in your thoughts and prayers.
