Marvelyn Yvette Thompson

November 5, 1950 — January 22, 2021

Marvelyn Yvette Thompson, 70, died peacefully at home on January 22, 2021 surrounded by her husband. She was preceded in death by parents, James and Bennie Mae Fuller, sister, Sherry Fryar.

Educated in the public schools of Asheville, NC, Marvelyn received a B.S. degree from Bennett College in Greensboro, NC, and graduate degree in Library Science from Indiana University – Bloomington. After moving to Nashville, she served over 30 years as a librarian at Meharry Medical College.

She became a member of St. James AME church in Asheville, NC at an early age and later placed membership at Payne Chapel, AME Church, Nashville, serving on the senior usher board and in the Women’s Missionary Society. She was a life member in her beloved sorority, Zeta Phi Beta –Phi Zeta Chapter, until death.

Traveling was one of her “favorite things” which she and husband, Calvin, did often especially on holidays. After witnessing the “Music City Miracle,” she became a faithful Titans fan, attending games regularly. She loved animals and nurtured dogs.

Marvelyn is survived by husband, Calvin C. Thompson, nephew, Kerrel, and nieces, Kokeeta and Dalila Fryar of North Carolina; in-laws, Dorothy Pamplen, Cora Patton, Attorney, George H. Thompson, III, Barbara, Maylon, & Clyde Thompson, a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 3 pm to 5 pm, Friday, Jan. 29 at Lewis & Wright Funeral Home. Funeral services Saturday, January 30, at 11 a.m. Due to Covid, funeral services are limited to 25 people.
