Life Reflections

Deaconess Jeffie Delander Drake Allen was born on June 18, 1934 in Lynnville, Tennessee to the late Turner Brown Drake and Mary Will Phelps Drake. She is the oldest girl of 10 children. She received her formal education at Bridgeforth School in Giles County. She accepted Christ at an early age. She married Reverend Robert Gault Allen on March 26, 1955 and to this union four children were born. She worked and retired from Genesco giving over 30 years working every position from the front office to becoming a certified tow motor operator. She was the first base and shortstop for the company softball team.

She was preceded in death by her parents Turner Brown Drake and Mary Will Phelps Drake; her siblings Robert Louis Drake, Lindle “Doc” Drake, Adia Ruth Braden, Mary Francis Braden, Hugh Brown Drake, Jimmy Lee Drake, and Willie Joe Drake; 2 grandsons Renaldo Sanchez Brown and Montey Dominic Brown.

Jeffie attended and served at St. Luke A.M.E. Church where she sung with the Voices of Faith, was President of the Blue Ribbon Club; an ordained Deaconess in 2004; Sunday school teacher; President of the Missionary Society and active in the Minister’s Wives Society.

She was a Den Mother, Girl Scout Leader, 2nd Mother to Cumberland Garden Neighborhood, babysitter to MANY, PTA member, a bowler, and a cheerleader for her FAMILY. She never met a stranger, loved everyone unconditionally, gave second chances, saw good in everyone, would give you her last dollar and the shirt off her back, loyal dependable and GOD fearing woman. The mold was broken when GOD made her, for we can only try to emulate her actions. Her favorite word was “One More Thing,” and the last words that Deaconess Allen and Rev. Allen spoke together were, “Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Master ,Master, Master, Thank You, Thank You, Thank You.”

Jeffie leaves to cherish her memories spouse Rev. Robert G. Allen of 63 years; children Bobby Randolph (Janet) Allen of Houston, TX, Disney Lewis (Tanja) Allen, Imelda D. Allen-Wright and Sonja W. Allen. Grandchildren: Bobby R. (Akeba) Allen II of Houston, TX; Jerimy P. Allen of Dallas, TX; Tyler L. Allen of San Francisco, CA; Jarrel D. Wright, Jordan D. Wright, Christopher L.
