GARRETT, Paulette Henderson A tenth generation Mobile, Alabamian and a resident of Nashville, TN for forty-five years, passed on Saturday, September 17, 2011. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, James Carter Garrett; a son, James "Jimmy" Carter Garrett III; and a daughter, Stacey Arlene Garrett. She was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver Henderson, Sr. and Artherine Platt Henderson; three brothers, Ambrose, Norwood and Marvin Henderson; a sister, Avril Henderson Lindsey; and her parents-in-law, James Luther and Annie Pearl Garrett. Her survivors also include three brothers, Oliver (Winona) Henderson, Jr. and Vincent Warren Henderson of Mobile, AL, Harold (Elaine) Henderson of Dayton, OH; and two sisters, Yvonne (William) Jackson of Anderson, SC and Myrtis (John) Cline of Clinton, MD. She leaves her beloved cousin, godmother and Kindergarten teacher, Claraetta Rodgers Daniels of Mobile, AL; two loving nieces, Rayne McPherson and Dana Lusk; and a sister-in-law, Saraetta Henderson, all of Detroit, MI; two caring nephews, Norwood (Stella) Henderson, Jr. and Michael (Kim) Henderson, also of Detroit, MI. First cousins, Gloria (Davidson) Jackson of Los Angeles, CA and Madelaine (Marvel) Green of Mobile, AL were very close to Paulette. Other surviving family members are two first cousins, Mary Louise Fagan of Marietta, FL and Barbara Jean Chestang of Detroit, MI. Additional family members include eighteen nieces and nephews, and their husbands, wives and children, and a host of first, second and third cousins. Paulette's very dear and close friends are Florence Steele Kidd, Cynthia Ball Robinson, Joan McNeil Dees, Lelu Benjamin, Carolyn Larson, Carolyn Williams, Linda Deason, Feta Renfro, David Boone Marable, John Swain, Ruth Dennis, Dr. James and Ruth McGriff, and her mentor, Ronald Webb. The family expresses its deepest gratitude to Dr. Jia Bi for the many years of loving and compassionate care she provided to Paulette, and its sincere appreciation to the entire staff at Tennessee Oncology. The family also offers special thanks to the nurses at Deaconess HomeCare and to the staff of Alive Hospice for their care and support. The visitation, Vigil Service and Rosary will be held on Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at 7 p.m., at Christ the King Catholic Church. The Celebration of Life Mass for Paulette Henderson Garrett will also be held at Christ the King Catholic Church at 1 p.m. on Thursday, September 22, 2011. Entombment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Nashville, TN. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to Fisk University to establish a scholarship honoring Paulette Henderson Garrett.
