Reverend Samuel Moses Davis II was born April 1,1929, in Birmingham, Alabama. He went to his eternal rest on August 17, 2025, at Alive Hospice in Nashville, Tennessee.He was the eldest of six children born to Reverend Samuel M. Davis Sr. and Mrs. Minnie B. Davis. He began preaching at 9 years of age, and by the age of 16, he had traveled to more than 10 states holding youth revivals 2 weeks at a time. In his younger years, he was home schooled in Alabama. Later, he enrolled in Jewell Academy and Seminary where he completed his high school education and earned a certificate of Christian Education. He also attended University of Tennessee Nashville, and for four years he attended Emmanuel Bible College (a subsidiary of the Wesleyan Methodist Church) where he earned a degree in Homiletics.He moved to Nashville in his late teens and joined Greater Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church under Reverend L.A. Haynes where he became a local preacher. In 1950, he was drafted into the military and was a Korean War veteran. After his military service, he returned to Nashville and joined Lee Chapel AME Church. He was ordained Itinerant Deacon in 1957 and he began pastoring at St. Peter AME Church in Nashville. He served in assignments throughout Middle Tennessee and Chattanooga, Tennessee until 1988 when he was assigned Presiding Elder of the South Nashville District under the leadership of Bishop C.E. Thomas and later assigned Presiding Elder of the North Nashville District under the leadership of Bishop Vernon Byrd. He retired from active service in 1995, and was appointed Presiding Elder Emeritus in the Tennessee Annual Conference under Bishop H.H. Brookins. In addition, he worked for the state of Tennessee Department of Human Service and retired after 25 years. He was married to Evangelene Barton Brown Davis for 71 years and together they had 5 children: James (Rhonda) Counts, Charles (Vicki) Counts, Samuel (Stella) Davis, Angela Davis, and George Davis, and grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. He was a devoted brother to Reverend George Davis, the late Reverend Stephen Davis, the late Mrs. Minnie McClaine, Ms. Louisa Davis, the late Mr. Henry Davis, and sister-in-law Mrs. Eula Davis, and loved devoted cousin Bishop James L. Davis. He also loved and leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Please join us in celebrating the life and legacy of Reverend Samuel Moses Davis II.
