Robert Calvin Daniels

August 23, 1950 — October 15, 2025

Robert Calvin Daniels, fondly known as” Bobbo”, passed away October 15, 2025, after a one-year battle with lung cancer. Bobbo was born on August 23, 1950, in Greenville, North Carolina to Charlie James “JD” Daniels and Mary Melissa Barnes.

A milestone in his life was when he and Michael Garrett, the first Black students, integrated Junius H. Rose High School in Greenville, North Carolina.

Bobbo’s early entry into music was his mother, who was a talented performer with a beautiful voice. He was often present and began performing on demand. This early homegrown musical education, and the special gift of a drum set from his mother cemented his love of music and began his musical career. He was a singer with The Drifters, and a vocalist and drummer with the Turning Point group. He was a drummer and backup vocalist with Kenny Rogers and traveled the world, which he loved, for over 13 years. He was part of the team that created The Super Bowl Shuffle, the winning year of the Chicago Bears.

With his wealth of real-life experience, kindness, humanity, and gift of gab, he became a grant writer, with a focus that earned millions for justice impacted and unhoused individuals and saved countless lives. Bobbo was able to fund many non-profit organizations through his grant writing expertise. In all of our imperfect lives, this was his atonement.

Bobbo enjoyed playing golf with William “Drewry” Scales (DDS), traveling, and acting in community theatre. He also appeared in commercials, print ads, and two movies, Second Chances and Elizabethtown and was a member of The Screen Actors Guild (SAG).

Bobbo was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Barnes, and his father, Charlie Daniels, his beloved maternal uncle, Curtis Barnes, a brother, James Eric Wright (Chris), sister, Othelia Hobbs. He is survived by his loving wife Thelma “Tee” Treherne, daughter, Angela Sherman, granddaughter, Lativia Harper, and great-grandson, Franklin Brown, Cousins Alice “Dot” Bullie-Simmons Streeter, William “Bro-Bro ”Dudley (Annie Pearl), Carolyn Barnhill Pridgen (Ray), Douglas Lanier (Lucretia), and devoted cousins, James Cherry, Tanya Tucker-Dawson, Staci Streeter Moye (Morris), sister-in-law, Betty Treherne Harris (Anderson) and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

At the time of his death, he was surrounded by loved ones: Thelma “Tee” Treherne (wife), Stephanie Harris (niece), Heather Beegle and William “Tripp” Scales (dear family friends). Also survived by Maceo Treherne Daniels, a formerly feral cat, named for Maceo Parker, a saxophone player for James Brown, who has maintained homestead vigilance and protection since the time that his father was transported to the hospital.

Bobbo gave us his signature smile to say goodbye.
