NASHVILLE - Martin, Ruth Elizabeth Parker, age 86, was born in Greensboro, North Carolina on September 28, 1931. She passed away on Tuesday, December 19, 2017.

She was preceded in death by her husband, legendary basketball coach Edward "Coach Ed" Martin, her mother and father, Wade and Leola Parker, of Greensboro, North Carolina, her sister Mildred Clorine Nash and Nephews Nathaniel Nash of Greensboro, North Carolina and Jimmy Spencer of Atlanta, Georgia; devoted cousin Virginia Stephens of Greensboro, North Carolina and sister-in-law Alice Banks of Washington, D.C.

She is survived by daughter, Arnetta Davie Hamilton (Eddie), grandchildren Janean Overton, Lancaster Hamilton, Myles Hamilton, and Corey Hamilton of Nashville, Tennessee; son Dr. Edward A. Martin, Jr. (Tavia) grandchildren Elise, Edward III, Rubyn, Elena and Julian of Redonda Beach, California and Nashville, Tennessee; daughter Angela Martin of Silver Springs, Maryland; nephews Norman Nash of Greensboro, North Carolina and Walter Acklen of Nashville, Tennessee; nieces Gail Taylor, Joyce Acklen of Nashville, Tennessee and Sandra Spencer and family of Atlanta, Georgia; a host of great nieces and great nephews; devoted cousin Thurstena Stephens of Greensboro, North Carolina; sister-in-law Zora Felton of Washington, D.C.; and close family friend Richard (Delores) Lewis Sr. She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 525 Sneed Road, Nashville, Tennessee.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 27, 2017, visitation at 11:00 AM with funeral to follow at 12:30 PM. Delta Sigma Theta Inc. and Girl Friends, Inc. services before funeral.

Burial at Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery, Pegram, Tennessee.
