SHERMAN WALLACE FRIERSON was born in Nashville, TN on November 26, 1953. He departed this life on Sunday, February 15, 2026. Sherman was the fifth child born to the late Isaac Frierson and Thelma Shipp Frierson. He was preceded in death by parents and older brother, Harold James Frierson Sr.

Sherman gave his life to Christ early in life, being baptized at the Original Church of God, 14th and Phillips Street. He served faithfully as a member of the Youth Choir, Senior Choir, the OCG Male Chorus, and as a Trustee. Also singing with the Sanctuary Choir after the move to the new location on Tucker Road, re-named Bethesda Original Church of God.

Sherman was educated in the Davidson County schools, attending Wharton Jr. High School and graduating from Pearl High School, Class of 1971.

He was also an avid golfer and enjoyed playing here in Nashville with his buddies Randy Crawley Sr., Bert Whittaker, Mark Hardge and Randy “Cricket” Crawley, Jr., and traveling to Florida to play with his cousins Jerry Long, John Frierson and the crew.

Sherman was truly a compassionate servant. He was a member of New Spirit & Friends, Mission Chorus and Team, and the Male Ensemble. He participated in many of the mission trips where they traveled to various cities and communities to serve and perform concerts. Sherman served as a volunteer during the tornadoes of 2020 willingly walking the streets and helping others while his home was personally affected. He also volunteered with Second Harvest Food Bank and Room in the Inn. Giving unselfishly was one of his many loving and memorable characteristics.

He loved spending time with family and traveling with his devoted companion and best friend, Patricia A. Merritt. They often visited our 102-year-old, Aunt Lois Long.
