Velma H. Readus

Velma Readus was born on March 8, 1943 to the late Earl and Mahalie Hampton in Huntsville, AL. She departed this earthly life on February 18, 2021.

Velma was educated in the Madison County School System. She was united with Binford Readus in 1961 and they enjoyed 59 years of marriage.

Velma accepted Christ as her personal savior at an early age. In 1994, she joined Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. She remained a member there until her passing.
She enjoyed starting each morning praising the Lord with Gospel Music and Praise. She was also an avid fan of watching football and basketball. Velma was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister and showed hospitality to all who came to her home.

Velma was preceded in death by her parents; Earl & Mahalie Hampton, daughter Sandra Readus, son Marcus Readus, sister Alvereane Hampton; brothers, Earl Hampton, Jr, Jimmy Hampton, uncle Pearl Hampton, aunt Lorean Thompson and brother in-law Clifford Crutcher.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories, her husband Binford Readus, three daughters, Lisa Johnson of Lavergne TN, Chandra (Derrick) Allison of Whites Creek TN, and Jennifer (Timothy) Northcutt of Hermitage TN; two sons Binford (Pam) Earl Readus of Smyrna TN, and Dale (Wendy) Readus of Colorado Springs, CO. Eight sisters Rosie Hampton, Eddie Jean Hampton, Hazel (Samuel) Hereford, Joyce Pickett, and Carolyn (Robert) Strong of Huntsville, AL. Earline Holden, Susie Armstrong, and Vera Crutcher of Nashville TN; one brother Kenneth Hampton of Huntsville, AL. Uncles, Eddie Lee Hampton, Henry Sledge, Pearl L. Sledge, Lawrence Sledge of Huntsville, AL and Melvin Hampton of Chattanooga,TN. Aunts, Lillie Sledge, and Pearline Morrison, of Huntsville, AL; Earline Gurley and Annie Bell Mason of Chattanooga, TN. Four granddaughters, Sharonda Johnson, Alexis (Andre) Moorer, Jael Readus and Ariah Readus; seven grandsons, Jason Johnson, Jordan Johnson, Cedric Cole, Eddie Smith, Brandon Readus, Derrick Allison, Jr., and Benjamin Dawson; great grandchildren Sh’Rell Simpkins, Ga’Rell Simpkins, Malik Johnson, Anari Johnson, and Ariel Johnson and a host of other family and friends.
