Reflections of Life

Mrs. Vera McCord was born September 21, 1946 in the lovely family with 4 brothers, 1 sister and a loving mother, Mrs. Vera Mathews.

Mrs. Vera McCord attended Cameron High School. After graduation, she worked for a Endodontic Dentist as a Endodontic dental assistant. She was the first black Endodontic dental assistant in Nashville. She was hired by Dr. Manuel Sir at the age of 16. She loved her job and worked there for 34 years. She married Thomas E. McCord, Jr. Thomas and Vera were married for 33 years. Mrs. McCord was a very loving woman.

She loved God, she believed in the One G-d, and she loved each and every one of her family members. She loved her husband dearly. Thomas and Vera began a ministry in Nashville, that encompassed many parts of the city. They ministered @ Nashville Rescue Mission, the woman’s mission, prisons, jails, nursing homes, Spencer Youth Center and Juvenile Detention facilities. Mrs. McCord touched so many lives. The lives she touched convinced them that there is a G-d and that He is One. During their ministry, she became acquainted with many people and encountered many walks of life. When Mrs. McCord reached a point to where she was unable to minister with the different ministries, she began to campaign to help the poor, the needy, and the homeless. She executed her assignment by G-d until her passing. Mrs. Vera McCord will be missed by her husband very much.

She will be missed by her sons Roderick and Terrance; her brothers Clarence, George and Junior; and her sister Glenda. Her entire family including her grandchildren, nieces & nephews will miss her also. Yes, Mrs. McCord’s physical body has left us, but her spirit is very much alive! Vera, we will see you on the other side. She leaves to cherish her husband of 33 years, Thomas E. McCord, Jr. Two sons Roderick Mathews and Terrance Welch. Stepchildren Dr. Torina McCord and Thea McCord. Brothers George Mathews; Andrew Calloway, Clarence (Phyllis) Mathews; Sister-in-law Gwen Dolyn. Her loving sister Glenda Williams. Grandchildren Aniyah Welch; Shannon Welch; Deanthony Yonko; Briana Yonko; Roderick Mathews, Jr.; Natasha Mathews; and David Lewis. Please keep the McCord family in your thoughts and prayers.
