Ms. Vunny Mae Horton was born on April 13, 1928 in Athens, AL to the union of Hartle & Lena Bell Cain. She was educated in Athens, AL with only a 9th grade education. She professed her life to Christ at an early age, joining New Hopewell Baptist Church.
Her family moved to Nashville, TN when she was 17 years old. Vunny met and married Jimmie Horton, Jr, and to this union 8 children were born.
She and her family joined St. Paul A.M.E. in Nashville, TN under the leadership of the late Rev. George E. Douglas, Jr. She later moved her membership to St. Matthews A.M.E. also under the leadership of Rev. Douglas, Jr. now under the leadership of Rev. Reginald Brock. It was at St. Matthews were she joined the Usher Board then the Mother’s Board until her health failed.
Vunny is preceded in death by her 9 siblings; son, Robert Horton & 2 sons-in-law, Karl Hall & Troy Gulley.
She leaves to cherish her memory; devoted children, Clyde (Armelda) Cain, Shirley Gulley, Bobby (Pat) Horton, Jimmy Horton, Bernice Horton, Janie Hall, & William (Karen) Horton; devoted daughter-in-law, Virgina Horton; devoted nieces, Ramona Hamer, Linda Ford, Gwendolyn Mason & Beverly Edwards; devoted granddaughters, Shonta & Latoya Horton, Waukeshia & Jalissa Hall; a host of other grand, great-grand & great-great grandchildren as well as nieces & nephews; devoted friends, Ms. Yvette Etter & Ms. Bertha Hayes.
